  1. First of all, drawing sketches creates a blueprint for the model. It lays the foundation for the model and give us something to follow. The drawings aid us in conceptualizing our models, which I believe is essential. It allows us to view different perspectives and allows us a testing board before we begin the actual modeling.

  2. While drawing robot design before modeling, you can get many ideas from many drawings. It will give good base for modeling. It will help to think details of character.

  3. You will have a clearer and defined idea of what to model. This will also save time if you want to change to a different model.

  4. From drawing your robot design, you will know all the angles and little bits of detail to add to your robot. Also if you dont like the idea, you can just draw another one. This will make the process much smoother then just jumping straight into modeling and continuously changing it if you dont like it.

  5. The process of drawing a model before actually modeling the object is one used by professional animators as shown in the articles and videos above. It helps the artist understand the character better. It creates a base to work of off which will make the animation process much more efficient. It could also make the process easier for corrections on paper are less time consuming than corrections on a computer.

  6. When you draw a model before modeling, you get better understanding of the characteristics of the model. Drawing is also not as limited as modeling, you can make many different sketches. It also takes less time to draw than to model.

  7. It saves a lot of time and effort because changing a model is more difficult than drawing a picture. Also, drawings help give people an idea of what they will model. Then, they can break down the model into different components, making modeling easier to accomplish.

  8. Drawing first instead of going straight to animation can benefit you in a few ways. First of all its much easier to fix something you don't like on paper than it would be to fix it on an animation software. Secondly its much less complicated to add on items to your character such as a shirt or socks or something of that nature. In general it is easier and better for you to start on paper than on the computer.

  9. Drawing the robot design makes it easier to visualize the end product. Even though you have thought of the character and how it looks in your head, it may not look good on paper which saves you time from starting a project and spending months making the character and animating it as compared to a couple of hours drawing it. Also, it is easier to model the character on the paper than in your head. The one on paper has dimensions while the one in your head does not. It is easier to make something with definite lines and shapes than it is to make something with no definite shape/lines. This enables you to create a great looking character while spending the least amount of time on it.

  10. A benefit of drawing your model before you go into the process of modeling it is being able to understand your character more. The characteristics of your character become clearer because you can see it visually on paper instead of trying to remember it all in your head. you get to see the personality of your character as you draw it, and the ideas that you may want to add to your character can happen.
